Blog 8
This blog is in continuation of the previous blog.Make sure to check that out too!
So, our practicals started 3 days after our pre-proffs ended. It was our first Experience to take up practical exams and to experience one dreaded full-of-insults and scolding "VIVA".
I guess every science student I meet who happen to knew that I am pursuing MBBS ends up asking " or bta kitne beijjati hui Viva me?"😆🤣🤣 Literally, Viva(s) in medical college is on another level of you to experience how your professors can turn their back on you🙂
This blog is of my Physiology Practical Exam.
So my first practical exam was of Physiology and started around 9:15am.Our professor told us to be in the demo room around 9.Usha(you know her now ,right?) called me to be there in the demo room as quick as possible, but my so called do-not-spend-money-cause-you-belong-to-middle-class-family took bus that day too🙂
.And I was Late,I came around 9:10 but still happen to take up the exam🤣🤣 "Thank You,God!"
So the whole process of Physiology practical exam involves, taking up the OSPE exam,Practical-I then followed by table viva of the practical you performed; Then Practical -II followed by ViVa;one clinical viva based on amphibian graphs and charts and clinical viva ; and then one dreadful Table Viva!
The practical that one has to perform is of two types, one hematology and other Human lab practical that is clinical based. Table viva is the type where the examiner comes to your alloted seat and asks you questions regarding the practical you just performed.
OSPE is Objective Structured Practical Examination, where you have to answer 15 questions presented in front of you within a minute. I was prepared for that and I performed well😊
Then we have to take up the practical-I
The Practical-I was to be alloted by the picking up the chit in front of your examiner.
That feeling when you are about to pick up your chit and find if you get the practical that is alloted to you, "ki yaar ye kiya to tha kabhi, par abhi iska procedure yaad sa nai aa raha!" 🤣🤣 Trust me that happens alot!
When my turn was coming to pick up.I was so in awe that maybe I will get that practical I don't know the procedure of, or maybe getting that practical whose viva is so extensive that you will end up receiving the most insults😭
I picked up the chit, no.16 was written on that. Lab incharge wrote 16 on top of my sheet and told me to head towards Clinical Lab.
When I saw no.16 I was so scared, that Why the hell I got the 2digit practical no.🤣🤣 Neither my lucky no. is 1 or even 6. When I was heading to the lab, the whole thought what no.16 implies and was preparing myself to recieve those insults🤣
When I reached to my space I had to perform experiment on. I found that there was no such question paper 😭 I was so much furious, why the hell there is no question paper that tells you which practical you have to perform🙂
I went to my professor, She came and told that previous batch tore off the question paper🤣🤣 She then told me the aim of the practical I have to perform.
Luckily, I got "Measuring of Mean Arterial Pressure and Pulse Pressure"
I was so much happy🤣🤣 Because I knew how to perform that!🤣 I performed the experiment via digital BP monitor🤣🤣
I first asked batchmate Vivek but then he told that If he would be my subject then,i have to be his subject too in which I have to perform exercise then He has to take up my BP🤣🤣
I was so not ready to do exercise because Winters in Delhi is no joke!🤣
Then, I asked Yash who happened to get the same practical. He agreed and I took readings in less than 5 minutes🤣🤣 Benefits of technology🤣🤣
I was done with the practical at the earliest🤣
Then came my professor ,she asked me the questions. I was struck im the very first
*facepalm*
Ma'am then gave me a look and told the answer🤣🤣. Then, after that I answered almost every question.
My practical-I was done now.
I was called for the next viva that was of amphibian graph and charts, i was prepared for that too, but was stuck when professor told me to actual explain😂 I knew that answer but I couldn't explain her well😌 why the hell I was mumbling😂😂 I was nervous though😂
Then ma'am showed the packed swab used for covid testing.I never saw that actually😂😂 Ma'am asked me for which purpose it is used for? I was silent😂 Then ma'am told me for which other purpose It can be used for. I told for examination of Olfactory nerve😂 *facepalm again*
Ma'am was laughing at me this time😂😂 That was an embarassing moment though😌
Then, ma'am asked how you would try that out to examine olfactory nerve. This time out of confidence, i told the whole procedure. Ma'am knew I was wrong, but Ma'am was amazed by my promptness😂😂
Then after listening to my explanation, she actually said in loud voice. This is used for examination of Glossopharygeal nerve for taste sensation. Then professor asked me,"okay, tell me any oil used for examination of olfactory nerve"
I told mustard oil(that's what i could recall at that moment)😂😂 Ma'am started to laugh again, she then answered Peppermint oil.
Then, she told me to head back(Start studying Shipra was silent)to the Hematology lab.
Then came Practical-II which was of Hematology or the infamous "khooni practicals" I got WBC count😃
Then, came the tragedy, I pricked my finger wasn't even able to extract 0.5ml of blood😌
I pricked my finger multiple times, but to my surprise, i couldn't fill it upto 0.5ml😂😂 (😭)
Then I asked batchmate Yashmi to help me out. I pricked her finger and happened to get right amount of blood. Performed the practical and got correct readings too!😇
Then Ma'am asked questions regarding the practical And I performed well!😁
Now,after this was the Grand Viva which happen to not take place.
The whole practical was done. It was another level of embarrassment though, but It was my first experience 😁
Hope you liked it!
Thank You!
