Okay, so I am writing this post when I just completed my Foundation Course logbook because obviously this carries marks, And you as an MBBS student should never fail to fetch score, You getting for extra tad-bits(because MBBS exams speaks for itself😌)
So though our "Covid-stuck/ruined ever-so-fine 2020batch" didn't get the opportunity to be a part of Foundation course, writing about it like How the experience would have been, seems kinda made-up for me🤣
I still remember our professors used to say(tease), Foundation course brings a fun side to your Med School life before you actually start in the grind for the academics.
Another concept that is different from the academics is AETCOM ,that aims on the overall intellectual and behavioral aspects of a Doctor.
AETCOM stands for Attitude,Ethics and Communication. Medicos get to study this subject via discussions from various department. Even we get to express our learnings in the form of Assignment that involves making videos or writing poems.
Anatomy department of my college really aced this.
I remember the day, whole Anatomy department came to address the module "History of Anatomy"
Where we were told How the concept of Dissection came and became a crucial aspect of studying Anatomy.
At the end of the session our HOD made us to recite and abide by the "Cadaveric Oath". After a day, our batch started up with the dissection.
Other sessions like, " Cadaver as our first teacher" aimed at sensitising how important is for students to respect the dead. All the "Do's and Dont's of Dissection Hall" were taught to Us.
There was a session too where we were told to watch the movie "Gifted Hands" though at that time ,our batch was still at home due to Lockdown.
We had a session where we were told to express our learnings from the session by making a video.
Other sessions where we had to make a video by asking a subject about the Covid vaccine!
We had a session where our professor told us about the importance of Communication both Verbal and Non-verbal type.
One fun activity was to make a video by enacting Facial Expressions depicting Non-Verbal Communication🤣
Even we get to be part of the sessions where Physiology department of our college took the opportunity and taught us the
"Duties and Responsibilities of Patient"
Where our professor actually asked our batchmates to share experiences of being a patient at some point of life. This session aimed at inculcating the habit about how doctor needs to learn and connect to the patient better.
Sessions where we were taught about
"Concept of Empathy"
How being empathetic is a quality that every aspiring doctor or who is pursuing medical sciences is required.Doctor being empathetic won't cost anything but for the patient you are actually building trust.
Whenever I rant about academics to my Mom, she always say
"Doctors ko aise hi Dusra bhagwaan nahi kaha jaata!"
Doctors are said to be second gods not just because they are educated enough to treat patients but because of the kind gestures they showcase.
So ya, Empathy and moral values are a must in this profession.
Now came the Biochemistry Department which took the opportunity to teach us the concept of "Doctor-Patient Relationship"
Where our HOD Ma'am told us what are the qualities of building a good doctor patient relationship.
I remember I was called to be a part of the skit where I was alloted a role to be a relative of a patient who has arrived to OPD. The role of Doctor in the skit was to be ill-mannered🤣 like not putting attention the patient.
The skit was fun though💥🤣
Another skit the GroupA of my Batch got to perform twice during the year was of "Good Doctor Vs Bad Doctor"
This skit was too fun and really a new experience. And yes, Amusing things do happen inside Med School beside Academics!
